As noted earlier this summer, in the interest of safety all use of our main telescope and chart room at Darling Hill Observatory was suspended due to severe annual winter weather damage. Multiple chart room roof joists have failed. The observation deck roof can no longer safely be rolled back over the chart room until the roof and joists are replaced.
An appeal for funds last spring helped, yet today, the society remains approximately $1,000.00 short of its fundraising goal to complete repairs. To enable use of the observatory this fall, we must start construction by mid-September. A reputable contractor awaits our raising sufficient funding for this essential project.
Your tax-deductible donation would be greatly appreciated. The Syracuse Astronomical Society is a Section 501(c)(3) Corporation. On behalf of the SAS board, thank you in advance as the society celebrates its 97th year!
