SAS Members,
Our group has been informed of a proposal, currently before the town of Homer, to build several LED billboards along I-81, not far from Darling Hill Observatory. Several members of our board of directors attended a town board meeting and I spoke against the proposal.
I need not tell you what LED billboards would do to the dark skies around Darling Hill. The blinding lights would harm wildlife, distract drivers, lower property values and blight the whole area not to mention ruin the dark skies we all enjoy.
We have received requests for assistance from concerned residents of the town of Homer. They are currently seeking legal assistance to fight the proposal.
Therefore, in response to these requests, our board of directors, by unanimous vote, has agreed to match donations of up to $1000, to support their efforts. We will collect donations until September 15th.
Please help us defeat this clear threat to our dark skies!
Thank you!
